The Director of Paid Search is a senior-level role within Boathouse’s Performance Business Unit. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the strategy and development of paid search campaigns for various clients in complex categories – Healthcare, Financial Services, Higher Education, and Utility. This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is proactive, data-driven, and who is relentless in the pursuit of performance.
Overview:
As the Director of Paid Search, you will be responsible for establishing a best-in-class paid search capability, grounded in historical and industry best practices. The expectation is that this person has an established Paid Search philosophy and playbook that can be effectively translated to maximize performance, investment and achieve marketing and business objectives. You must be an expert at interfacing with clients, understanding their business needs, and recommending strategic solutions that are aligned with the clients’ business goals. In this role, you will also mentor and guide the paid search team, while collaborating cross-functionally with other channel teams and clients to drive growth and success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Execution:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive paid search strategies across multiple platforms (Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, etc.).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (display, social, etc.) to ensure paid search is integrated into overall marketing efforts.
- Stay current on industry trends, platform updates, and best practices to deliver innovative and effective search strategies.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills to balance tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and navigate challenges effectively.
- Campaign Management:
- Oversee the implementation and management of paid search campaigns, including keyword research, ad copy development, bidding strategies, and audience targeting.
- Monitor and optimize campaigns to maximize ROI, reduce CPA, and meet performance goals.
- Utilize advanced data analysis to generate actionable insights and optimize ongoing campaigns.
- Implement A/B testing, experiment with new tactics, and make data-backed adjustments to enhance performance.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding paid search strategy, reporting, and recommendations.
- Communicate performance insights, updates, and actionable recommendations to clients and internal Bh stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Partner with clients to understand their goals and ensure paid search efforts are aligned with overall marketing objectives.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of paid search specialists.
- Provide guidance on best practices, campaign management, and optimization techniques.
- Foster a collaborative team environment and promote professional growth within the team.
- Budget & Forecasting:
- Manage and forecast budgets across paid search campaigns, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Conduct financial analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting, ensuring campaigns stay on track and within budget.
Key Competencies:
- Possess 8-10+ years of experience working with paid search and strategy, including hands-on experience in Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Google Analytics, and other third-party management platforms (Skai, Marin, etc.)
- Experience working on performance campaigns in Healthcare, Financial Services, Higher Education, a plus.
- Experience running a variety of media tactics within those platforms such as SEM, GDN, Retargeting, Audience Targeting, and Video
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in data-driven campaign optimization.
- Experience managing a team and developing talent.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- A strong understanding of how paid search integrates with other digital marketing channels.
- Agency experience is a plus.
- Experience managing six-figure monthly budgets preferred, not mandatory.
- Possess high level of integrity, autonomy and self-motivation.
- Understands the value and importance of team.
- Ability to mentor and steward junior team members.
